Behind the Scenes with Jolt: Fully Charged #4 - Introducing the BETA Units!
Look out, automatons! Ohm's bringing in his heavy hitters now!
Introducing the Bipedal Enforcer and Tactical Automaton Unit, or BETA Unit for short. These re-purposed information units have been fine-tuned to hunt down all but the strongest of Resistance fighters. Since hunting down the resistance is their primary goal, Jolt is unlikely to encounter one if the player chooses to go straight towards the level exit. However, if the player is willing to lend Ohm's enemies a hand, they may find themselves face-to-face with one of these powerful hunters. |
As the player progresses through Jolt: Fully Charged, they may come across side paths or hidden rooms containing these BETA Units. These powerful foes grow stronger the further the player is in the game, but defeating these challenging foes also come with their own rewards. Every time a BETA Unit is defeated, it fills a notch on a meter located on the right side of the screen.
There is one BETA Unit in every level. Think you can you defeat all of them? |
Listen to the Music of Jolt: Fully Charged
For those who was playing the demo version of Jolt: Fully Charged, you may notice that extra care was taken by our musician, Everett Fischer, to ensure that each song was made to sound like it was made on the 16-bit era console, the Sega Genesis, Over the next few weeks, we'll be showcasing bits of the soundtrack as they are made. In the meantime, enjoy a track from our wonderful musician!

Jolt: Fully Charged Demo Coming Soon!
Hello, automatons!
We've been sharing a lot of info about Jolt lately, but not exactly when it's being released or how one might be able to try it out. Well we've got some good news for you! Darkera Studios is proud to announce that we will be releasing a demo of Jolt early next month (August). This demo will give the player access to 3 levels within the earlier parts of the game and has been fine-tuned to allow players to ease into the gameplay of Jolt. Stay tuned as we share details for it, but expect it within the coming week! |
Behind the Scenes with Jolt: Fully Charged #3 - Lost Lagoon
Beneath the clouds of distant mountains and hidden within the lowlands of a forgotten world lies a majestic lagoon where rainbows shine and water runs free.
Little of Ohm’s empire actually resides here, and what robots you will find here are nothing more than constructs created to maintain and preserve the landscape. Even watchtowers buried beneath tries were forgotten by Ohm, their transmissions long ignored by a ruler with little opposition. One should take caution traveling through the Lost Lagoon, however. Careless wandering can lead one through a maze of foliage and stone, or perhaps through tunnels of water and ruin. |
Behind the Scenes with Jolt: Fully Charged #2 - Power Up Showcase Part 1
Hello, automatons!
You've seen an image or two of what gameplay looks like, but what about the actual abilities that Jolt (and any other character) has at his disposal? The good news is that vanilla Jolt is just the beginning! But what exactly are some of the powerups you can get in Jolt: Fully Charged? Today, we have two of them displayed to your right! The first one, the Burst Shield, allows the player to create damaging sparks that fly off of the ground when the player dashes along it. This shield has a drawback, however, as it requires a solid surface to be nearby for its ability to activate. The second one, the charge shield, is more suited for direct or aerial combat. It hurts foes that the player comes in contact with, allowing for the player to blast through the level with little worry. |
Behind the Scenes with Jolt: Fully Charged #1 - Acropolis Assault
Greetings, automatons!
You might be wondering what kind of levels you will encounter on your quest through Jolt: Fully Charged! Fortunately for you, we've got that covered, These next few news segments will help highlight the various domains of Ohm's vast empire. First up is the first full stage in the game; Acropolis Assault! |
|
Set at the far edges of Ohm's central base of operations, Acropolis Assault serves as the vantage point from which Professor Ohm examines the progress of his conquest. Here, the player will encounter a weak, but still operational unit of Ohm's robots sent out to scout the premises for Jolt's presence.
This level is split into 3 parts, one of which is its own introductory stage called Defender's Dawn. Afterwords, the player will be able to explore the vibrant above ground region followed by the cool and smooth underground region. These cave systems, though cool and largely vacant, work with the nearby dormant volcano to provide geothermal energy to Ohm's observatories.
One should take care traveling through the caves, however, as the cave system spans ever downward, creating near-bottomless pits!

Announcing Jolt: Fully Charged!
Hello and welcome!
We here at Darkera Studios have exciting news to share, and that is the announcement of our first stand-alone project, Jolt: Fully Charged! Made in the image of 16-bit era platformers, Jolt: Fully Charged puts you in control of the titular automaton Jolt and his sparky companion, Cycle, each with a similar, but distinct playstyle. As Jolt, you'll blitz through 10+ levels, each with their own enemies and challenges as you escape your pursuers in a restless race to the end of the game. But don't be afraid, you've got a buddy by your side, and there's nothing the two of you can't accomplish by working together. Unfortunately, your quest won't be an easy one. The tyrannical ruler, Professor Ohm, wants back something you've stolen from him, and he'll go to any lengths to pry it out from your cold, lifeless chassis. And you can count on Joule, Champion of the Resistance, to go after anything Ohm might use to further his rule over the entire planet. It's up to Jolt and Cycle to save the world from calamity! |
Gameplay
As stated above, Jolt: Fully Charged is made in the image of 16-bit era platformers, and functions the way you would expect it to. Your goal is to reach the end of each level, defeat the boss, and continue onto the next stage.
Where things differ, however, is Jolt's ability to become intangible and phase through enemies with his signature Bolt Dash. Combined with his wall jump and double jump, the player has many different approaches to situations they'll encounter. You collect various power ups, such as the Dash Shield (Pictured to the right), which gives you new abilities such as double-dash, item magnetism, or even the ability to glide. Explore and find them all! |
Unfortunately for Jolt, this isn't a jog from room to room, but a race from level to level!
Not only does your health not regenerate between stages, but you'll need to collect gems and other items to recover your lost health. Fortunately, while you start off weak and fragile with only 3 units of health, you can collect power-increasing batteries that strengthen your character's maximum health (Pictured to the left)and restore you to full health, adding an exploration element to the game and giving you the edge you need to stop Ohm's advances! |
Ohm and his machines will stop at nothing to take down Jolt. You'll have to move quickly to avoid attacks with carefully timed jumps, wall jumps, and dashes between attacks to find the perfect opportunity to strike your foes and move to the next level!
Every stage has its own challenge, so be prepared for the worst every time you reach the end of a level! |
The Characters
Sparky and intelligent, Cycle serves as the brains of Jolt's escape plan. She's been waiting a long time to help stop Ohm from destroying the planet, and now she's finally got the chance.
She's not as fast as Jolt, but her ability to create sparks of electricity that propel her through the air makes her incredibly agile when not on the ground. In his early years, Ohm was considered a maverick by his peers, and was the youngest and least experienced member of the Scientific Union. One of his earliest experiments would involve augmenting his own eyes with cybernetics.
Eventually, he would go on to build the Mega Drive Core with the help of Dr. Lisa Shannon, granting him the tools he needed to conquer the world (and those who mocked him). He later betrayed his partner once she learned of his intentions, exiling her and leaving her unable to stop his conquest. |
Our athletic hero and protagonist. Created by the Mega Drive Core in a last-ditch attempt to save the planet from Professor Ohm's increasing madness.
Bearing the activation key to the Calamity Contraption, Ohm's most devastating device constructed yet, Jolt serves as the primary focus of Ohm's forces. As the champion of the Resistance, Joule is one of the few remaining humans willing to stand up against Ohm’s tyranny. On her own, she has had little success however.
She'll do anything she can to save the world, even if it means going after what could be potential allies in her quest to end Ohm's ruthless regime. |
Features
- 10+ Large Levels, each with their own challenges.
- Fast-paced platforming with an emphasis on aerial control and momentum.
- A unique playstyle allowing Cycle to take over should Jolt run out of health.
- Additional modes, including alternate stories and time attack, unlockable after completing the game.
Cool Story, But When's the Release Date?
We don't have an exact release date, but late 2018 is the deadline. You'll just have to follow us to find out when exactly that is!
